About German VOICES Vancouver
Elke Porter is the editor of a new newsletter dedicated to the German-speaking Community.
The first issue was November, 2007, and had 2 paying advertisers. Her goal is a minimum of 20 each month.
Mission: to share events, cultural heritage, stories, information & more
Inspiration: There are no more actual German newspapers on the Westcoast. The Kanada Kourier went bankrupt 2 years ago, the Pazifische Rundschau was sold to someone in Seattle and is now called www.europeanweekly.net and the other papers are all from either Toronto or Montreal. We need a paper over on this side filled with information relevant to the Community we live, work and play in. This is the kind of paper that I would read myself, if someone else was publishing it. Some of my readers confessed to "reading every word and hoping for more". This is the kind of feedback I like. Of course others mention that there are no sports statistics or fashion stories, but that can easily be resolved by those out there in the know sending me some!
The future: Either a newspaper or a magazine - my advertisers, sponsors and readers will eventually decide.
Usual advertising rate per month: $75 or $50 if booking 2+ months and only $500 for a whole year! Payable in advance.

The DKV Society is seeking new Members! Families may join for
$50 a year, or may contribute towards a special event. All proceeds
are used to further the aims of our Society, which is run by strictly
volunteers. Some goals include purchasing a domain name & website
hosting, joining the German Chamber as a Society, fundraising activities,
such as our annual Lantern Festival, and possibly getting DKV T-Shirts
to sell to the public. We also are looking for Board Members to help
plan & host events. Finally, some other short-term volunteer positions
are:
a. Help draw plans and/or make a model of our future German Cultural Centre as an architect
b. Help plan a museum or children's museum - what would or should it look like?
c. Help organize a German library and/or DVD swap organization
d. Coffee shop or deli that would like to move in and join us - indoor/outdoor facility available
